Erin, director of Aloka Yoga & Pilates, is a natural and highly experienced teacher. With a Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Education Erin brings a unique perspective to her classes. Her extensive knowledge enables her to fluently blend biomechanics principles with an effortless teaching style to share her passion for yoga and pilates. Erin also regularly teaches on yoga teacher trainings in Australia and overseas, and internationally at yoga retreats.
Her personal healing journey with yoga began with a diagnosis of scoliosis at the age of 21 and she hasn’t looked back. Erin completed her first yoga teacher training at Essence of Living Academy in January 2009. This Certificate III & IV in Fitness (yoga specialty) gave Erin the opportunity to blend all of her previous education and health industry experience into a career that she treasures. She has since gone on to complete another 200hr training with Radiantly Alive and the 500hr Level 2 yoga with Essence of Living.
While experimenting with ways to improve her own yoga practice and teaching, Erin found a new love with pilates. Completing level 1 and 2 Pilates teacher trainings brought another amazing practice to share. Not satisfied with mat and barre, and venturing more into movement as therapy, Erin studied Pilates Reformer and Cadillac. These apparatus classes are slower and more targeted, enabling students to really feel and work on their imbalances.
With insatiable curiosity and a burning desire to bring better balance to students Erin has continued to learn new skills. In 2016 Erin studied Myofascial Release, a method of massage that targets tension and stuck spots in the connective tissue of the body. Releasing the fascia brings huge and immediate changes in the way the body is able to move.
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation is another technique Erin studied after feeling the impacts of the method on her own body. This modality of movement therapy re-trains the brain to utilise the core properly and, again, enables the body to move in more effective and efficient ways in training and daily life.
